Grandma Betty’s Sugar Cookies
This is from a really old Betty Crocker recipe book. This has been our family's xmas cookie baking tradition
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp milk or cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract - lemon or almond are also good
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 cup flour
Directions:
- Cream together sugar and butter. Mix in egg.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla.
- Combine baking powder, salt, and flour.
- Add flour and mix until thoroughly combined. Shape into disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm. Several hours or overnight.
- Roll out chilled dough on lightly floured surface. Roll thin and cut to desired shapes.
- Bake at 425° for 5-7 min or until lightly brown on bottom and edges.
- Cool and ice as desired.
Notes
Depending on size and thickness of cookies, this does not make a lot of cookies. We usually double the recipe. Quadruple batch fits in the Ankarsrum mixer with plenty of space to try for more, can probably fit 6x batch.
